Bahrain and the U.S.A. sign cultural agreement

Bahrain and the U.S.A. have signed a memorandum of understanding which will ensure the protection and preservation of cultural monuments and heritage.

The move, announced by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, saw the two parties emphasise the importance of respecting the values of understanding, tolerance and friendship between nations, different ethnicities and various religious groups, as all cultures represent the common heritage of humanity.

The memorandum also confirms the work of the UNESCO Convention on the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage 1972.

The agreement includes nine articles focused on respecting basic human rights and promoting concepts of tolerance and friendship between states, different ethnicities and diverse religious groups, in addition to promoting and protecting the cultural heritage that distinguishes the two countries.

The Kingdom of Bahrain was represented by Her Excellency Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, Chair of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, while the U.S.A. was represented by His Excellency Mr Paul Buckle, Chairman of the United States Committee for Preserving American Heritage Abroad, who during his visit to the Kingdom toured a number of sites in the city of Muharraq.
