HE Lt. Gen. Dr. Shaikh Mohamed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health and Head of the National Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus (COVID-19), issued a notice on Bahrain’s current health care system capacity.
“The Kingdom of Bahrain has increased its capacity to identify and treat COVID-19 as part of its comprehensive approach to contain the virus and prevent it from spreading,” he said.
HE Shaikh Mohamed noted that HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister’s leadership of national efforts continues to minimise the impact of COVID-19 and safeguard the well-being of citizens and residents.
Hospital beds remain available to meet surge in capacity with the current capacity for treatment centres standing at 1,667 beds of which 225 beds are occupied, and the capacity for quarantine centres standing at 2,504 beds of which 172 beds are occupied. Additionally, the compartmentalised structure of quarantine centres allows for quick conversion to treatment centres if required.
To date, Bahrain has conducted over 28,500 tests for COVID-19, and contact tracing activities are underway to reduce COVID-19 transmission by identification, isolation and treatment.
HE concluded by praising the work of the treatment and quarantine centres, including the around-the-clock specialised medical care offered, noting that these efforts reflect Bahrain’s ability to address the pandemic while preserving the health of citizens and residents.
